Developers and Programmers Salary In Nigeria

If you’ve ever wondered how much you should request from that new job offer or you are about to hire a programmer and don’t know the cost range, then this article is for you. If you are a developer in Nigeria, you would probably earn an average of N3,760,000 annually. Sounds like a huge amount of money right?

Before we continue, I’ve added some links in the description to further help you understand the context of this video. Alright! Let’s get into it. Software developers, mostly known as programmers or coders are a set of people who use computer languages to build software.

There are majorly two categories of software developers:

  1. We have Application Developers - who design computer or mobile applications.
  2. System Developers -who focus on network distribution and system-level software.

Now that we have a great idea about these people and their roles, let us talk about how much they earn. Our focus in this video will be on Nigeria! As mentioned earlier. Like some of you may already know, Nigeria is a great country full of mineral resources. Beyond just the natural resources and the likes of several professionals, Nigerians are also intellectually sound and skilled in technology and software development. Nigeria is becoming the technology capital of Africa.

According to TechCrunch, Nigeria has become a magnet for venture capital, a hotbed for startup formation and a strategic entry point for Silicon Valley. There is no doubt that the nation is going through a lot of economic and political challenges, but the fact still remains that the country is  getting its act together to become Africa’s unrivalled superpower.

This is arguable and we can keep talking about it. Just make sure you share your thoughts in the comment session. Moving on from the little digression, let us get back to our focus for today.

According to Salary Explorer, a Software developer salary ranges from N144,000 to N498,000 monthly. This amount encompasses housing, transportation and other benefits.  Before you think of stating that as your preferred amount in your next employment interviews, several factors will determine how much a company will be able to pay:

  1. The size of the company,
  2. your experience,
  3. your skillse and;
  4. location of the company.

Talking business location for example, if you find yourself in states like Benin, Ibadan, Kaduna, Kano and Lagos, you might get a higher pay rate. Mind you, I’m not saying other states in the Federal Republic of Nigeria can’t pay more but based on the data within my reach, those 5 cities I mentioned might do you good. To further explore the data, don’t forget to check the links in the video description.

In conclusion, I have an important question! Based on this analysis, are Developers in Nigeria underpaid or they are moderately paid? Well, that’s a conversation for another edition. Meanwhile, let me know your thoughts in the comment session.
