In an increasingly digital world, customer support teams face mounting pressure: growing ticket volumes, expectations for instant responses, and the challenge of maintaining consistent knowledge across distributed teams.
What if your support documents could answer questions automatically, with the nuance and understanding of a human agent?
That’s exactly what we’re building in our latest AI Playbook Hands-On Series — a Customer Support Chatbot powered by Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), LLaMA 3, and GPT. This isn’t just another chatbot; this project turns static documentation into a live, intelligent support system capable of delivering accurate, company-specific responses.
Our kickoff session laid the foundation for what’s coming. It was a practical orientation — an introduction to the problem we’re solving, the tools we’ll be using, and what participants need to get ready before diving into code.
Why This Matters
Traditional chatbots often struggle to give relevant answers because they rely solely on pre-set scripts or limited context. By contrast, RAG-based systems use Large Language Models (LLMs) and an internal knowledge base — allowing the chatbot to retrieve and reason over real business data.
This approach bridges the gap between generic intelligence and specific domain expertise.
Key Highlights from the Session
1. What is Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)?
Participants learned how RAG combines search and generation. It retrieves relevant chunks of data from your company’s knowledge base and feeds them to a language model like GPT or LLaMA 3 — ensuring the output is accurate, up-to-date, and relevant.
2. Technology Stack Preview
We introduced the core tools we’ll be using to build the chatbot:
-
Large Language Models (LLMs): LLaMA 3, GPT-4
-
Frameworks & Libraries: LangChain, FAISS (or ChromaDB)
-
Data Processing Tools: Python scripts for text chunking, embeddings, and vector storage
-
Hosting Options: Local environments, or scalable cloud services
3. System Architecture Overview
We diagrammed the full architecture — from ingesting business documents, to embedding them into a vector store, to setting up a RAG pipeline that delivers intelligent responses through a chat interface.
4. Setup Instructions and Requirements
To prepare everyone for the coding session next week, we shared:
-
Required Python libraries and packages
-
How to obtain API keys for OpenAI or HuggingFace
-
How to install local development tools (VS Code, Python, etc.)
-
Optional: How to prepare your own company documents for the chatbot

What’s Next — May 8, 2025
We officially begin building next Thursday!
Participants will get their hands dirty coding the actual chatbot — ingesting documents, setting up vector search, creating the RAG pipeline, and deploying a working support bot.
So if you’ve been waiting to go beyond theory and actually build something real with AI, this is your moment.
