I often wonder why so many organizations overlook critical insights about the future. As Peter Gostev pointed out, many businesses today are built like factories; highly structured and process-driven.

While this setup can create efficiency, it often limits individual contribution and, ultimately, innovation.

With more advanced AI models, like GPT-5 or Llama-4, on the way, there’s a risk that these tools won’t make a big difference; not because they aren’t powerful, but because many companies won’t know how to use them effectively.

Of course, when I say companies, I’m also referring to individuals!

Imagine how academia, research labs, or high-growth tech firms operate. These environments benefit from high intelligence, allowing a single individual’s insights or innovations to transform outcomes.

In contrast, 99% of businesses follow a “factory” approach: they build processes so standardized that the potential of each person in the chain is capped.

This structure minimizes the impact of a high-performing or low-performing individual, which means that high intelligence has little room to flourish.

So, how can we change this? Here’s a simple approach:

1. Start with Learning:

Instead of worrying about how to make big changes, focus on educating everyone in the company about new tools like AI. When people understand the technology, they’re more likely to use it creatively.

2. **Empower Employees:

Give people room to think critically and come up with fresh ideas. When employees feel valued and empowered, they’re more likely to innovate.

3. Build Flexibility:

Move away from rigid, factory-like structures. Instead, create a culture that adapts and grows with new levels of intelligence.

If we want to unlock the full potential of AI and other advanced tools, we need organizations that are flexible, open to new ideas, and built to let everyone contribute.
